Lamington National Park QLD

BaseBind

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) put out a tender for the rehabilitation of the Moran Falls walking track and seating area in the World Heritage-listed Lamington National Park, in South East Queensland.

Using BaseBind, Guru Dirt Works was able to reuse the existing in-situ material on site to create a strong, weatherproof walking track that will last for years. This approach delivered significant cost savings by eliminating the need to transport material deep into the national park. It also addressed the important environmental consideration of introducing foreign material into a national park ecosystem.

Cooee Products have been independently tested for hydrocarbon leaching, with results confirming that no hydrocarbons leach from our products.

We attended site and trialled several options and mixing ratios, ultimately achieving sufficient strength in the material to confidently confirm its suitability for the application.

The existing material was broken up to a depth of 75–100 mm, with BaseBind mixed through evenly in line with our testing. The surface was then shaped, compacted, and left to set.

We learned a great deal from the rangers and Guru Dirt Works throughout this project and look forward to working with them again in the future.
