Coochin Creek Day Area

BaseBind

The Coochin Creek day use area in Beerwah State Forest required a disabled access ramp constructed from crusher dust leading up to the toilet block.

Because the ramp needed to support wheelchair access, materials containing large aggregate were not suitable.

While crusher dust binds and compacts well when mixed with water, it shares a common weakness with similar materials, water can just as easily break it apart again and crusher dust tends to deteriorate faster than most.

BaseBind was selected to mix into the crusher dust to prevent water from washing the material out. By making the material hydrophobic, BaseBind helps create a strong, long-lasting surface. It was mixed on site at 1% of the material's weight using a bobcat, then laid out and shaped to the pre determined incline for easy access. The added strength BaseBind provides ensures the ramp remains safe year-round and significantly reduces maintenance requirements
